Egypt launches AI aerial platform to track pollution sources and support 100 Million Trees initiative
The initiative will strengthen oversight in key areas, including building violations, waste management, and pollution monitoring.
Egypt’s Ministry of Local Development and Environment has signed a cooperation agreement with Drone Tech to deploy an AI-powered aerial monitoring system, as part of efforts to modernize oversight and enhance public service delivery.
According to a ministry statement, the system will enable real-time field monitoring and data analysis to support decision-making across governorates.
Minister of Environment Manal Awad said the initiative will strengthen oversight in key areas affecting daily life, including building violations, waste management and pollution monitoring, particularly the seasonal “black cloud” phenomenon.
The platform will also be used to track encroachments on natural reserves, support afforestation efforts under the 100 Million Trees initiative and enhance environmental inspection and public service monitoring.
The ministry added that the project will use advanced spectral imaging technologies to identify and track pollution sources with high precision, forming part of broader efforts to integrate advanced technologies into government operations.
Awad described the initiative as a step forward in strengthening oversight systems and advancing Egypt’s digital transformation agenda under Egypt Vision 2030.
Mohamed Shehata Youssef said the company will provide full technical support for the rollout, noting that deployment will take place in phases across governorates based on priority areas and in coordination with relevant authorities to enhance monitoring and regulatory mechanisms.
