Saudi Arabia has been selected to host the 57th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in 2027, further cementing the Kingdom’s position as a destination for major international scientific events.

The IPhO International Board approved Saudi Arabia’s bid during the 56th edition of the competition, held in Bucaramanga, Colombia, which brings together some of the world’s most outstanding secondary school students.

The announcement builds on the Kingdom’s growing track record of hosting prestigious international science Olympiads. In July 2024, Riyadh hosted the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad, welcoming 333 students from 90 countries.

In May 2025, Dhahran hosted the 25th Asian Physics Olympiad, which brought together 240 students from 30 Asian countries.

Saudi Arabia is also preparing to host the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad in Jeddah from August 2 to 9, 2026, as it continues to strengthen its presence on the global scientific stage.

Hosting IPhO 2027 reflects growing international confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to organize world-class scientific events and its expanding knowledge infrastructure.

The event also aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and the Human Capability Development Program, which aim to invest in talent and build a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy.

Beyond the competition itself, IPhO 2027 will provide Saudi Arabia with another opportunity to showcase its scientific ambitions and developmental progress while bringing together some of the world’s brightest young physics students.
