Egypt to launch sovereign-backed industrial fund to boost manufacturing and exports
The initiative is part of Egypt's broader strategy to localize industrial production, increase foreign currency earnings, and improve the country's trade balance.
Egypt is set to establish a sovereign-backed industrial investment fund to strengthen its manufacturing sector, attract long-term institutional capital, and boost exports, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid announced during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Tuesday.
The fund will prioritize investments in machinery, low-voltage electric vehicle batteries, pharmaceuticals, packaging, and phosphate fertilizers. The initiative forms part of Egypt’s broader strategy to localize industrial production, increase foreign currency earnings, and improve the country’s trade balance.
Farid also unveiled plans for a separate investment fund to support the expansion of Egyptian private-sector companies across Africa. Designed to bridge financing gaps, the fund seeks to attract domestic and international investors while helping Egyptian businesses expand their presence across African markets and strengthen regional economic integration.
The minister also presented the upcoming National Initiative to Enhance Exports from Governorates, which will operate under the prime minister’s supervision. The program will collaborate with local and international partners to expand Egypt’s exporter base by assessing companies’ export readiness and helping businesses meet international market requirements. Governorates will be selected based on industrial activity, logistics connectivity, export potential, and the local regulatory environment.
To improve the accuracy of key economic indicators, including foreign direct investment (FDI), the ministry is launching a digital platform to collect and analyze corporate financial statements. Farid said the ministry has also engaged with embassies and organized workshops to help companies comply with disclosure requirements under Egypt’s Investment Law.
Separately, the ministry will launch the Investor Care platform as a unified digital channel for investor complaints, replacing multiple existing systems. According to Farid, 69% of previously submitted complaints have already been resolved.
The ministry has also activated an electronic trade remedies platform to help protect Egyptian exports from protectionist measures. In addition, Farid proposed establishing a privately managed sports investment fund to support athletic talent while generating returns for investors.
