Saudi banking sector assets rise to SR5.75 trillion
Saudi Arabia’s banking system reached SR5.75 trillion ($1.5 trillion) in total assets in July, up 0.27% from SR5.73 trillion in June, according to the latest data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).
On a year-over-year basis, banking assets increased 6.71%, rising from SR5.38 trillion in July 2025.
The latest figures build on the sector’s broader growth. SAMA’s Financial Stability Report found that banking system assets increased 13.6% in 2024 to SR4.49 trillion, compared with 9.3% growth in 2023, driven largely by rising claims on the private sector.
Bank claims on the private sector, the largest component of the banking system’s balance sheet, rose to SR3.266 trillion in July. Claims on the government also increased 0.48% month over month to SR670.9 billion, while lending to nonfinancial public enterprises climbed 4.33% to SR273.7 billion.
Net foreign assets held by SAMA and commercial banks edged up to SR1.535 trillion.
Meanwhile, the total money supply fell 0.55% month-over-month to SR3.36 trillion. Time and savings deposits increased 1.73% to SR1.39 trillion, while government deposits declined 14.46%.
SAMA said the banking sector remains resilient, with a capital adequacy ratio of 19.6% in 2024, well above regulatory requirements.
