Fatima Alshamsi is an Emirati scientist making breakthroughs in the understanding of vascular complications in type 2 diabetes through pioneering genomics and precision medicine research. As the first joint PhD student between Khalifa University (UAE) and KU Leuven (Belgium), she uses single-nuclei RNA sequencing and multi-omics to reveal molecular drivers of endothelial cell dysfunction.
Her research aims to develop new therapies for metabolic diseases that affect millions of people. Alshamsi also mentors emerging Arab scientists and champions the UAE’s role in global biomedical innovation, representing a new generation shaping medicine’s future in the region.
