Ajman becomes the first UAE government to deploy agentic AI for customer transactions

Ajman has become the first government in the UAE to deploy agentic AI for customer transactions, rolling out a proactive trade license renewal service that shifts public services from reactive applications to autonomous execution.

The new system, developed by the Department of Digital Ajman, completes trade license renewals through a “headless” service model in which AI identifies when a license is due for renewal, prepares the required service journey, secures approvals, and coordinates processes across government entities with minimal customer input.

Instead of submitting an application, business owners receive a notification through the AjmanOne government app before their trade license expires. They are then directed to an AI-powered assistant that manages the renewal process.

If a valid commercial lease is required, the system automatically integrates with the Municipality and Planning Department to guide customers through the lease renewal before resuming the trade license renewal process, creating a single digital workflow across government entities.

The move signals a broader shift in how governments are approaching AI—not simply as a chatbot or productivity tool, but as an autonomous system capable of carrying out complex administrative tasks on behalf of users.

“This achievement reflects the Government of Ajman’s commitment to translating the vision of our leadership into practical services that improve people’s lives and support the business community,” Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Executive Council, said in a statement.

He described the initiative as a key milestone under the Ajman Artificial Intelligence Program, adding that the government is developing AI models to improve decision-making, enhance customer experiences, and strengthen integration across government entities while operating within frameworks for governance, trust, accountability, and data protection.

The Department of Digital Ajman built the infrastructure behind the initiative, which it says enables government services to operate seamlessly across existing and future digital channels while accelerating the rollout of new services.

For businesses, the immediate benefit is a simpler, more seamless renewal process. For the government, it offers a blueprint for a more proactive operating model, one in which services anticipate the needs of residents and businesses instead of waiting for them to submit requests.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman’s Department of Economic Development, said streamlining trade license renewals would strengthen the emirate’s competitiveness by making it easier for investors to do business.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department, said integrating commercial lease renewals into the same workflow eliminates the need for customers to navigate multiple government entities, helping ensure business continuity.

According to the Department of Digital Ajman, the success of agentic AI-powered government services will depend on an ecosystem that combines high-quality data, secure systems integration, governance, continuous monitoring, and human oversight.

The launch marks another step in the UAE’s broader push to embed AI into public services, moving beyond digitalization toward autonomous government operations that proactively deliver services while reducing administrative burdens for businesses and residents.
