DEWA has announced its intention to boost the number of green, fast, and ultra-fast charging stations for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Dubai this year.

At the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi, Majid Hilal Al Hazami, Director of Smart Grid Projects Management at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), announced ongoing efforts to expand the network of green fast and ultra-fast charging stations for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Dubai.

Fast and ultra-fast chargers are strategically located at petrol stations, key entrances, and exits throughout the emirate. According to Majid Al Hazami, the time required to charge approximately 80% of a vehicle’s battery using ultra-fast chargers typically ranges from 20 to 40 minutes, contingent upon the battery capacity and vehicle type. Meanwhile, medium-speed chargers are commonly found in shopping malls, parks, and office areas, with charging an EV to 80% at these stations typically taking 2 to 4 hours.

Al Hazami emphasized the efficacy of smart grid management in realizing sustainability objectives and meeting consumer needs. This development builds upon the Green Charger Initiative, initially introduced in 2014, with the first phase, encompassing the installation of 100 stations, completed in 2015.
