A delegation from Masdar, led by CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, toured Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) new Al Shera’a headquarters in Al Jaddaf to review its smart building technologies, sustainability features and operational systems.

The visit was hosted by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, who briefed the delegation on the building’s performance and its role in advancing Dubai’s clean energy and sustainability goals.

During the tour, the delegation learned about Al Shera’a’s integrated operational system, which combines Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence to monitor, analyze, and respond to environmental and operational conditions in real time.

DEWA describes the facility as the world’s tallest, largest and smartest net-positive government building, designed to generate more clean energy than it consumes.

According to DEWA, more than 110,000 smart sensors collect operational and environmental data across the building, supported by over 1,500 wireless access points and more than 3,200 network devices. These systems generate more than 1.9 million automated control commands daily to enhance operational efficiency and performance.

Al Shera’a is designed to set a new benchmark for net-positive buildings while providing a smart, sustainable work environment. The project supports the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 through improved resource efficiency, lower emissions and the adoption of advanced technologies.

The building comprises 19 floors, including a ground floor and a basement, with a built-up area exceeding 2 million square feet. It has been designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification and WELL Gold certification, reflecting international standards for sustainable, healthy and people-centric buildings.

DEWA said Al Shera’a serves as a model for future buildings by integrating artificial intelligence, sustainability, resource efficiency and employee wellbeing within a single operational framework.
