In a push to form a more solid foundation for Dubai’s green economy, a new law established the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority. Its tasks are further promoting sustainable practices across diverse sectors, preserving biodiversity, and expanding natural reserves and green spaces throughout Dubai,

“By deeply integrating the principles of economic, social, and environmental sustainability into its growth strategies, Dubai seeks to be at the global forefront of sustainable urban development,” said Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

The entity is expected to increase the city’s green cover by 100% and help boost spaces for protected areas and natural reserves in the emirate by 60% by 2040.

Key areas of focus also include forming initiatives and policies that work to achieve the emirate’s environmental objectives, one of which is to shift 100% to clean energy by 2050.

At the same time, it will prioritize the conservation of water resources and the adoption of sustainable waste management policies.

Aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), the new authority looks at adding to and raising the circular and green economy to Dubai’s GDP.

The Innovation By Design Summit is in Doha on April 24. Attendance at the summit is by invitation only. Delegates can register here to receive their exclusive invite.
