L’Oréal Middle East signs UAE climate pledge at Dubai Sustainability Summit
The company announced its plans to expand retail collaborations focused on sustainable packaging and supply chain solutions.
L’Oréal Middle East hosted its L’Oréal For the Future Summit at its newly renovated Dubai headquarters, bringing together government officials, sustainability specialists, retail partners, and industry stakeholders to discuss climate action and sustainable business practices.
The event marked a significant milestone in the company’s sustainability agenda with the signing of the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge in partnership with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). The move strengthens L’Oréal’s alignment with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and broader national decarbonization efforts.
The UAE plays a central role in L’Oréal’s regional sustainability strategy, serving as the location of its Middle East headquarters and a key market for testing and scaling environmental initiatives to make sustainable beauty more accessible and commercially viable.
During the event, L’Oréal Middle East formally signed the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge in the presence of Eng. Aisha Mohamed Al Abdooli, Director of the Green Development and Environmental Affairs Department at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
The pledge commits participating companies to transparent and measurable climate action and integrates them into the UAE’s environmental governance framework.
The announcement builds on L’Oréal’s wider sustainability efforts. The group has received a triple-A rating from CDP for 10 consecutive years for its performance in climate change, forest protection and water security.
Across South Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East and North Africa, all L’Oréal sites operate on renewable energy, while 65% of the company’s ingredients globally are biobased or sourced from abundant minerals.
The summit also highlighted L’Oréal’s efforts to advance circular economy practices in the UAE. Building on its sustainability partnership with BinSina Pharmacy, the company said it plans to expand retail collaborations focused on sustainable packaging and supply chain solutions.
L’Oréal’s refillable product range now spans makeup, skincare, haircare and fragrance brands, including Kiehl’s, Prada, YSL Beauty, La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, Kérastase and L’Oréal Professionnel. The company said Prada Paradoxe’s refillable format reduces material use by 44% for glass, 67% for plastic, 100% for metals and 61% for cardboard compared with standard packaging.
L’Oréal added that all of its point-of-sale materials are now eco-designed, while efforts continue with suppliers to measure and reduce carbon emissions across its value chain.
Beyond environmental initiatives, the summit also highlighted L’Oréal’s focus on social inclusion through technology-driven innovation.
The company announced the donation of more than 30 Lancôme HAPTA devices to the Al Noor Training Centre. The handheld, computerized makeup applicator is designed to support individuals with limited hand and arm mobility, including those affected by arthritis, Huntington’s disease, stroke-related conditions and other motor impairments.
Laurent Duffier, Managing Director of L’Oréal Middle East, said the signing of the climate pledge demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting the UAE’s sustainability objectives.
He added that expanding circular retail partnerships and refillable product options aims to make sustainable beauty more accessible to consumers nationwide.
The summit highlighted L’Oréal’s efforts to advance both environmental sustainability and social inclusion, while supporting the transition towards a more sustainable beauty industry in the UAE.
