The UAE delegation at the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, includes a number of officials and ministers of the Federal Government and local governments, in addition to businessmen and economic figures from the private sector.

During the first day of the annual meeting, Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Education, participated in a session titled Meeting of the Reskilling Revolution Champions, where he discussed the influence of the technological changes, the COVID-19 pandemic and the green transition on people’s livelihoods.

Al Falasi emphasized the importance of updating learning programs to prepare a qualified generation with the appropriate skills for the future and urgent investment in human capital.

To help business leaders and policymakers track disruptive trends and transformations and find opportunities to boost economic growth, Ohood Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and The Future, announced the launch of the Future Possibilities Index. The index builds on the 2020 Future Possibilities Report, commissioned by the UAE government, which identified a dozen trends that will advance the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The index will focus on identifying future opportunities, studying the market value, and evaluating countries’ readiness for opportunities in terms of proactive policies, flexible legislation, talent readiness, and the overall business environment.

The UAE, which will not be part of the process for producing the index, aims “to make this index a major flagship index and an important global source for governments and decision-makers to inspire forward-looking policies and strategies,” said Al Roumi.

The UAE pavilion hosted a dialogue session held by the UAE Space Agency, titled The Future of Our Planet – Low Earth Orbit Politics of the 21st Century, and hosted a fireside chat with Badr Al-Olama, the Executive Director at the UAE Clusters, Mubadala, to discuss how the economic clusters have helped the UAE by luring foreign investments and enhancing economic development and diversification.

The UAE pavilion aims to highlight the country’s commitment to strengthening economic ties and promoting economic and social growth.
