Inside Saudi Arabia’s aviation boom as passenger traffic hits 140.9 million
King Abdulaziz International Airport leads traffic growth as Saudi Arabia expands air connectivity and flight operations under Vision 2030
Saudi Arabia’s airports handled a record 140.9 million passengers in 2025, marking a 9.6% increase compared to the previous year, according to new figures released by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).
The figures underscore the continued expansion of the Kingdom’s aviation sector as Saudi Arabia pushes ahead with its ambitious tourism and connectivity targets under Vision 2030.
International travel accounted for the largest share of passenger traffic, with 75.8 million arrivals and departures recorded in 2025, up 9.4% year-on-year. Domestic routes also saw strong growth, carrying 65.1 million passengers, a 9.8% increase compared to 2024.
Among the Kingdom’s airports, King Abdulaziz International Airport ranked first, serving 53.5 million passengers during the year. King Khalid International Airport followed with 40.8 million passengers, while King Fahd International Airport handled 13.7 million travelers.
According to GASTAT, average daily passenger traffic reached 178,600 on domestic routes and 207,700 on international flights, reflecting sustained demand for both local and overseas travel.
Flight activity across Saudi airports also increased significantly in 2025. Total arriving and departing flights reached 979,800, an 8.3% rise compared to the previous year. Domestic flights totaled 506,300, up 6.8%, while international flights climbed 9.9% to 473,500.
King Abdulaziz International Airport recorded the highest number of flights at 314,400, followed by King Khalid International Airport with 296,800, and King Fahd International Airport with 108,500.
On average, Saudi airports handled 1,387 domestic flights and 1,297 international flights each day throughout the year.
The report also pointed to improvements in Saudi Arabia’s global air connectivity. The number of countries linked to the Kingdom through international airports increased to 66, up 1.5%, while the number of destinations served rose 2.3% to 176.
In terms of airline market share, Saudia ranked first among carriers operating in Saudi airspace with a 25.5% share. Low-cost carrier flynas followed with 13.3%, while Flyadeal accounted for 8.6%.
Despite gains in passenger traffic and connectivity, Saudi Arabia slipped one place in the global air connectivity index, ranking 18th in 2025, down from 17th in 2024.
